Riding your bike on the open road is both exhilarating and exciting, but it’s important to keep yourself safe at all times. In today’s entry, we’ll provide you with a few tips that will help you stay safe whenever you hit the road. When you’ve finished reading, browse our catalog to find a great selection of custom chrome motorcycle wheels and other custom motorcycle parts. Read on for four essential motorcycle safety tips!

Take Safety Courses

While you probably had to take a safety course to get your motorcycle license, many riders stop taking courses as soon as they can legally hit the road. While a beginner’s course will give you the knowledge you need to ride safely, you should always be taking courses to improve your riding and personal safety. Even if you consider yourself to be an experienced rider, there’s always something new you can learn from other experts.

Wear a Helmet

As we noted in a previous post, wearing a helmet is one of the easiest ways to significantly improve your chances of surviving an accident. We know that you’re ready to swap out your bike’s stock wheels for custom chrome motorcycle wheels and purchase a new custom exhaust pipe, but investing in a quality helmet should be your number one priority.

Refer to our previous post for additional tips and data pertaining to helmets!

Invest in Anti-Lock Brakes (ABS)

While many newer models come equipped with ABS, older models and some contemporary ones do not. ABS will allow you to retain control of your bike in the event that you have to come to a sudden stop, making them essential for riders in both cold and warm climates. Regardless of your bike’s make and model, ABS have been estimated to reduce the risk of a fatal crash by 37 percent, so be sure to add an ABS installation to your list of non-negotiable investments.

Ride Defensively

As long-time riders ourselves, we know that there’s nothing quite like taking off as a light turns green or flying down a stretch of open road. While it’s always tempting to push your bike and your adrenaline to their limits, you should never let your guard down or stop driving defensively. Some of the most important defensive driving tips you should keep in mind include:

  • Take extra precautions whenever you’re making a left turn.
  • Be aware that it’s much easier for a motorcycle to be in another vehicle’s blind spot.
  • Watch for debris, potholes, ice, and other road hazards.
  • Never follow closely behind another vehicle.

We hope that today’s entry will help you stay safe on the road this year. Watch our blog page in the coming weeks and months, as we’ll continue to provide you with additional resources and safety tips as the year goes on.
