Five Tips for Your First Time at the Strip

Oct 5th 2016

There’s nothing quite like the rush of a good drag race. Whether you’re in a car or on a bike, the sound of revving engines always gets your blood pumping. Everyone remembers their first time at the drag strip, and we’ve all made mistakes. Here are a few tips to help you be prepared when you head to your first few races.

  • Watch and learn! No matter how seasoned you are, watching other racers can do wonders for your success. You’ll be able to analyze the competition, see who has the fastest motorcycle, and see where other riders struggle on the strip. Best of all, you’ll have the opportunity to observe more experienced racers and see their technique!
  • Bring a basic set of tools with you. The last thing you want is to get to the strip only to find that you need to replace your tire or fix a belt. Rather than relying on the kindness of strangers, come prepared. Bring your basic tool kit so you can fix those surprise problems and start racing!
  • Be respectful. You may think you know everything, but if someone offers you advice, listen to it. Even the most experienced drag racers listen to suggestions from their peers. Whether it’s about upgrading a specific component or suggestions on how to handle rapid acceleration, do them the courtesy of listening.
  • Wear the right clothes. There’s a dress code at the track, even if you’re not participating in the races. Wear closed-toe shoes, long pants, and a shirt with sleeves. Leave the tank tops in your closet. The dress code is there to keep you safe and minimize the risk of injury from flying debris.
  • Bring cash. At many strips across the country, races last all day. You’ll want to be able to purchase snacks, drinks, and gear from local vendors while you’re there.
